Planet Solar in Abu Dhabi |
PlanetSolar the world’s largest solar ship is currently docked at Adnec Marina in Abu Dhabi to take part as a guest of honour at the World Future Energy Summit (WFES). The team, supported by IMMOSOLAR, is actively preparing for the dangerous crossing of the Gulf of Aden under the responsibility of Christophe Keckeis, former chief of the Swiss armed forces. After more than 49'000 km covered using solar energy only, which represents approximately the 4/5ths of its world tour, the MS Tûranor PlanetSolar is about to start its most perilous stage from a security point of view since the beginning of its expedition. |

PlanetSolar Competition: Imagine A Solar World |
The team of TÛRANOR PlanetSolar, the biggest solar yacht ever built, launched the «PlanetSolar Relay For Hope», a relay from one landing stage to the next, in which resident young people present their visions and hopes for a solar energy driven world through essays, videos, music, drawing and models. TÛRANOR PlanetSolar is currently sailing around the world powered only by solar energy with the mission to show that technologies in the renewable energy sector are already very reliable today. IMMOSOLAR as official partner of PlanetSolar understands the project as a unique opportunity to promote renewable energy and to sensitise future decision makers to reflect on what a ‘solar’ world would be like, without petrol or fossil fuels. At each landing point young people are invited to visit the boat and to participate in discussions with the crew to experience the unusual adventure at first hand. On the conclusion of the voyage, all works that were created will be given to politicians and representatives from the United Nations to signify the children of the world’s vision for a solar planet. To be able to reach children and young people around the whole world the initiators of the «PlanetSolar Relay For Hope» seek direct contact to schools, families and students and invite the future decision makers to participate via Internet in the competition «Imagine A Solar World».

IBA DOCK: The floating climatic house |
In the centre of the Hamburg metropolis there is a unique location which combines creativity, chances, contrasts and suspense. The Elbe islands of Wilhelmsburg and Veddel and the Harburg inland harbour are the venue and subject matter of the international building exhibition IBA Hamburg. Alongside the main themes of “metro zones” (development of inner city limits) and “kosmopolis” (development of the international community of a city) the IBA has written “City in a Climate Change” on its’ flags, with the goal of a CO2-neutral city development. On this backdrop projects are to be realised here which will enable renewable energies to find a wide area of usage. The importance of this theme should be expressed not only by the symbolic character but also by the transferability of the applied technologies to other projects. The IBA information centre, where building began in 2009, the IBA_Dock, was planned according to this motto; this signifies that air conditioning is possible without conventional energy sources such as oil and gas. |

Air conditioning design and ecological sustainability are self-evident requirements of contemporary architecture.
Together with the firm IMMOSOLAR, a concept was developed for 2 individual villas on the island of Mallorca for the maximum usage of solar energy for the buildings’ heating systems, and for the economical and highly efficient operation of heat pumps at minimum cost. The system can be operated remotely using the PC-run IMMOSOLAR control concept.
The facts: 30m2 of collector surface, 2 heat pumps, 1x 29kW, 1x 22kW heat production; geo-solar thermics: 1000m deep drillings. The IMMOSOLAR system within the houses ensures that the air conditioning is in perfect harmony with people and environment. The low temperature heat surfaces produce a unique comfortable air conditioning. The use of solar and geo-solar thermics takes care of the environment through its’ sustainability. The solar collectors are built in to the building in a manner that makes them practically invisible. IMMOSOLAR spoke with Mr. Michael Struck, coordinator of the project developments.

Fossil-free energy systems for buildings and solar mobility: IMMOSOLAR and PlanetSolar have teamed up to demonstrate how it's done.
The energy specialists IMMOSOLAR, are working in close cooperation as partners in outstanding projects. In Hamburg, Germany the IBA DOCK, currently the largest floating CO2 neutral building, proves how fossil-free energy systems can and will infuence urban planning and partners IMMOSOLAR and PlanetSolar implemented another superlative: the largest solar boat in the world.
