Solar autonomy on land and on the high seas |
Fossil-free energy systems for buildings and solar mobility: IMMOSOLAR and PlanetSolar have teamed up to demonstrate how it's done. image database The energy specialists, IMMOSOLAR, are now working in close cooperation with IBA Hamburg and PlanetSolar. After the official opening in 2010 of the IBA DOCK, currently the largest floating CO2 neutral building, IMMOSOLAR and PlanetSolar presented another superlative: the largest solar boat in the world.
A visionary partner, IMMOSOLAR, has joined forces with PlanetSolar. For almost two decades IMMOSOLAR has been developing and pioneering solar energy management projects. IMMOSOLAR pursues a vision of solar autonomy and specialises in the manufacture and sales of anti-fossil fuel systems for buildings. The IBA DOCK in Hamburg is a splendid example of this work. On balance, this floating information centre which is part of the International Building Exhibition Hamburg (IBA), needs no external energy for heating. With the motto "The City and Climate Change", this innovative project demonstrates how CO2 neutral urban development can be successfully realised. The aim of the PlanetSolar project is to circumnavigate the globe in 2011 with a boat powered exclusively by solar energy. The boat's skippers will cross the western Mediterranean, the Atlantic Ocean, the Panama Canal, the Pacific Ocean, the Indian Ocean and the Suez Canal, to finally return to their starting point. Jürgen Holzinger, Director of IMMOSOLAR, is looking forward to the partnership: "IMMOSOLAR is synonymous with solar autonomy and efficient energy management. That's why we're delighted to be supporting this project. It proves that renewables are already so sophisticated and capable that they can readily be used on ambitious projects like this." |
